8th & 16th Note Strum Patterns

Most of the songs are usually based on 8th note or 16th note strumming pattern. For 8th note it is |1&2&|3&4&| and for 16th note it is |1e&a|2e&a|3e&a|4e&a| (spelled as one ee and aa 'hindi waala आ"). Now 16th note strumming means u have 16 strokes |DUDU|DUDU|DUDU|DUDU|. Your hand should move at same speed down up down up ..
For example, when you read |D-DU-UD--U-UD-DU| it means down miss down up miss up down miss miss up miss up down miss down up.
For example, when u read |D---D--U---UD---| it is down miss miss miss down miss miss up miss miss miss up down miss miss miss .. it shoudn't be like u play a downstroke then pause and play another downstroke .. your hand should be continuously moving at same speed .. so D---D shud be, strum downstroke then u miss upstroke miss downstroke miss upstroke and then strum downstroke. And the strumming pattern can't be 10notes or 12notes, their is no such notes in theory .. their are few cases where the song is a combination of 8th and 16th note strumming pattern .. or may be some other pattern .. but those are exceptions.
We have triplet strumming pattern as well |DUD|DUD| .. their's a difference here compared to 8th & 16th note strumming technique .. after DUD usually we have an upstroke but in triplet strumming technique we have a downstroke .. We need to get the rhythm and tempo right by playing long and short notes.
